Well hello there new blog. Since no one will be reading this any time soon it's just you and me.
I'm 39. I'm not in terrible shape, but it's not great either. Getting strong and healthy are important to me so that's what I've been working on lately. I thought it would be nice to have a place to write about what I'm doing to accomplish this, keep track of my progress and have a collection of my favorite recipes etc. in one place.
I hope to write every day about what I did for exercise, what I ate, what I made for juice, what I did for a facial. Whatever.
So today was a rest day. I resisted the urge to call it a lazy day. Rest days are important, though on some of them I rest more than others. Today was super resty! I made a To Do list and did none of it. At least not yet. It's only 7pm. It could still happen. But here is what I DID do:
I started my day with a juice. I have little experience juicing but today the blend was just right and so was the amount. 1 apple, 1 orange, 2 carrots, 2 strawberries and a squeeze of lemon juice. It made about 6 oz of juice and it was really good. I have a smoothie every day after I work out, and I'm going to try to have a juice every morning.
I also gave myself a nice facial with some of the juice solids. After I finished my juice I rubbed some of it on my face and neck. Left it on for about 20 minutes and had a warm rinse. Finished with some coconut oil to moisturize.
I spent some time looking for vitamin c serum online. Vitamin c is really good for your skin. Collagen and all that. I'm trying to find one that is a balance between great/affordable. I just can not bring myself to spend $175 on a face serum. But I don't want to buy a $30 version if it isn't going to do anything. So the research is still on!
I took my dogs outside, which is about all of the physical activity I did today. I can't wait till it's nice enough to run outside. Or walk outside. Or even just BE outside. I am not a winter lady.
Here is what I have eaten today so far:
6oz Juice
20oz water with lemon x2
Big salad with vinaigrette.
Homemade Mac-n-Cheese with mushrooms and spinach
6oz Smoothie
Bowl of bran flakes, blueberries and vanilla almond milk
Another bowl of Mac-n-cheese!
And right now I am enjoying a vodka tonic. with strawberries. So it's healthy :)
I've been going to the gym regularly (4-6 times a week) for 7 weeks now. My sister and I are doing the Couch to 5K program and I can't really say enough about that. I could barely run for 60 seconds when we started and for the past 2 days I have run 20 minutes at a stretch. (C25K Week 5 day 3) No stopping. I feel awesome about that. That last time I tried to take up running 7 or 8 years ago I was still smoking. I had an asthma attack every single time. I weighed less but I was not in good shape. My goal is to make it to The Color Run in South Portland in June and to the Dirty Girl Mud Run in Boston in July. Both 5k's.
I am down some pounds on the scale since I started running and lifting weights (women need to lift weights to be strong and fit!) but my fitness goal don't have anything to do with the scale. I want to be firm, toned, and strong. I want a bigger butt. Whatever the scale wants to say is fine with me, so long as I accomplish those things. For the record, according to the charts and graphs based on my height and weight I am about 10 lbs overweight. No wonder no one likes charts and graphs.
I have some before pictures and I will put the up when I get closer to the after.
